Autism Resource

Welcome to the Autism Resource

Miss Pullan is Teacher in Charge of the Resource. She teaches us in the Resource too. There are lots of adults who support us during the day with our learning and life skills.

We start the day in the Resource with calm and quiet activities designed to get our brains ready for learning in school and end the day with a quiet story and prayer so that we are calm and ready to go home.

Our new Resource is amazing. We have one large classroom which can be made into two smaller rooms if necessary. We have a separate social space where we have snack and lunch. Some of the children use the space for ‘Bucket Time’ (Attention Autism) and other activities in the afternoons. We have lovely views out of the windows and the playground is great.

Some of us use the Resource as a base and spend most of our time in class alongside peers, while others do most of our work in the Resource because it is a quiet and safe space where we can work without being overwhelmed.

When we go to class, we learn alongside our peers and do all the same lessons as the other children in the class, doing English and maths in the mornings, and then each afternoon enjoying a rich and broad curriculum often taught by subject specialists. We are supported in class by an adult who knows us really well and can help us when we need it, yet encourages us to be independent when we can be. We join our peers in school events throughout the year, and go on school trips with them supported by adults who know us really well.

We also have the opportunity to go horse riding at the Newbury RDA, which is lots of fun and helps us with our social skills and motor skills as well as learning about the horses.

The Resource is also a space we use to complete Speech and Language Therapies as well as Occupational Therapies.
