6 LP

Welcome to 6LP’s webpage. We are a kind, creative and hardworking class who will always try our best. We enjoy learning about, and developing our understanding, of the world around us through the wide variety of subjects and experiences that are on offer at our school.

“Our class is such a fun place to be. Everyone is kind to each other.”

Our class teacher is Mrs Parsley, who teaches us in the mornings and some afternoons, and we are very lucky to have Ms Brice working with us as well. In addition to this, we are taught by many other teachers who are based at our school, as well as specialist teachers who come in to work with us. We are very fortunate to learn from teachers who are so passionate about their subject.

We are looking forward to an exciting final year at Theale Primary School. Here is some more information about what we will be learning and when:

Every morning, we have collective worship, English, spelling and maths. In English, we learn about different text types (both fiction and non-fiction) through reading comprehension, extended writing and grammar tasks. Our daily spelling lessons help us to understand the many spelling rules that make up the English language and those tricky words that don’t follow a rule. We enjoy trying to include our new spelling words in our writing each week.

Our maths lessons are taught by either Mrs Parsley or Miss Rowden. We are excited to be working on lots of reasoning and problem-solving questions this year, to develop a deeper understanding of the various maths concepts whilst also ensuring fluency in our arithmetic. We are working through the maths curriculum and are becoming confident and successful in maths every day.

We have a number of subject specialists who work with us each week, many of whom have professional experience in their field.

On alternate Mondays, we have science with Mrs Jones or PE with specialist coaches who help us build our skills in a range of sporting activities such as gymnastics.

On Tuesdays, we have either art with Mrs Lockhart or RE with Mrs Bradbury. As a Church of England school, we learn lots about Christianity. We also learn about different religions and can identify similarities in their beliefs.

Every week, on a Wednesday, we have life skills with Mrs Parsley and French with Madame Bastable; we hope to be writing paragraphs in French by the end of year! Our life skills lessons help to prepare for our future as we learn about careers and finance, the diverse world we live in, democracy and so much more. In Year 6, we saw democracy in action, when we held our election for house captains.

On Thursday afternoons, we have performing arts, comprising of music, dance and drama lessons. We are taught music by Miss Rowden. In addition to our weekly music lessons, we are currently learning about music throughout the ages and are enjoying listening to a wide variety of pieces in our collective worship. Claire and Carrie teach us dance and drama respectively. Both are professionals in their field, with a wealth of experience that we can learn from each week. They are also a vital part of our end of year production, which takes place at the Hexagon Theatre in Reading.

On Fridays, we have history with Mrs Parsley or geography and computing with Mrs Hearn and Mrs Parsley. We are looking forward to developing our programming skills this year.

In Year 6, we are becoming independent and resilient learners, who are working hard to be successful and confident young people - ready to make the exciting transition onto secondary school and beyond.
