Hi there! Welcome to Finale, a bubbly, enthusiastic Year 6 class bursting with ideas, creativity, and a real love of learning. We’re a team made up of unique individuals with brilliant talents — and when we work together, we’re unstoppable!
🗣️ “In Finale, we cheer each other on, celebrate our strengths, and bring our best selves to every challenge.”
🗣️ “We’re curious, thoughtful, and always ready to share our ideas in lively discussions.”
Meet the Team!
Leading the way in Finale is Mrs Jones, our class teacher, who brings challenge, and creativity to every lesson. We work closely alongside the wonderful Mrs Parsley in Encore, the other Year 6 class, and we’re also incredibly lucky to have Mrs Hunkin supporting us with our learning, our reading, and our confidence each day. Just like Encore, we have a whole family of specialist teachers who join us throughout the week, each sharing their passion and inspiring us — from science and geography to performing arts and more!
A Glimpse into Our Day 📅
Our mornings begin calmly with silent reading or an independent task, easing us into the day. Then it’s time for culture connoisseurs, where we explore music, vocabulary, poetry, art, and inspirational figures from the world around us. After collective worship, we dive into spelling and handwriting, followed by English, where we master grammar skills, learn exciting writing techniques, and craft creative pieces across all kinds of genres inspired by a fabulous set of core texts. Once a week, we sharpen our reading skills with a dedicated reading comprehension lesson.
After break, it’s time for maths, where we polish our arithmetic, develop reasoning skills, and apply our number knowledge to real-life problems. Our teachers – Mrs Jones and Mrs Parsley – provide support and keep us engaged in our learning. We love a good challenge!
What Makes Finale Unique? 🎨🌍🎶
Every afternoon in Finale brings something new, thanks to our talented specialist teachers. Here’s what our week looks like:
🔍 Mondays – One week we enjoy history with Mrs Eva and Japanese with Ms Dobashi. In history, we hunt for clues about the past, make links across time periods, and explore how lives have changed. The following week we have PE led by our sports coaches; we stay active with outdoor sports and develop our gymnastics skills indoors.
💻 Tuesdays - Another alternating day! One week we explore the world in geography and build our digital skills through computing — from coding and information technology to digital safety. The next week we turn our attention to RE, where we explore world faiths and beliefs and link these to our own spirituality.
🌟 Wednesdays - A constant favourite. In life skills, we learn how to navigate the wider world, exploring topics such as wellbeing, relationships, staying safe, and our fundamental British Values. In French, with Madame Bastable, we practise both conversational and written skills, building confidence and enthusiasm as we learn to communicate in a new language.
🎭 Thursdays - Performing arts day! We are very lucky to study music, dance, and drama with three amazing specialists: Miss Lynch, Claire and Samantha. We love discovering new talents and preparing for performances, particularly our end-of-year production at the Hexagon Theatre.
🎶 Fridays - Fridays are full of variety! In the mornings, we alternate between choir, philosophy for children, and outdoor education. We also take part in gifted, talented, and enrichment sessions, exploring passions such as art, drama, STEM, computing, history and archaeology, dance, and outdoor adventures. Every week also includes Recap and Remember, where we reflect on our learning.
In the afternoons we either have science with Mrs Jones, which is packed with experiments and investigations, or get creative in art, led by Mrs Yendley. We usually enjoy some time in the library too — which we can also visit three times a week at lunchtime.
Story Time & Beyond 📚
At the end of every day, we return to class for one of our favourite moments: story time. This helps expand our vocabulary, sparks our imagination, and brings a peaceful close to the day. This year’s reads include Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling and A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens — both classics full of adventure and wonder.
Life as a Year 6 Learner 🌠
Year 6 is a time for developing confidence, determination, and independence. We’re getting ready to take the leap into secondary school, equipped with new skills, self-belief, and unforgettable experiences. Whether we’re adventuring on our residential to Osmington Bay, heading out on brilliant school visits, or tackling our SATs with pride, we’re preparing ourselves for the exciting journey ahead!
