Each day, students are introduced to a different cultural element.

Music Appreciation

Music is a powerful and unique form of communication that can change the way pupils feel, think and act. It brings together intellect and feeling and enables personal expression, reflection and emotional development. As an integral part of culture past and present, it helps children understand themselves and relate to others, forging important links between home, school and the wider world.  Through our culture connoisseurs curriculum, students explore a wide range of musical genres and styles, from medieval chants to contemporary film scores. By studying music from various cultures and historical periods, they gain insight into how music reflects societal values and emotions throughout history and across the globe.

Art Through the Ages

As part of our commitment to developing children's cultural capital, students will be exposed to the works of renowned artists and gain an appreciation for some of the most significant pieces of art in history. We showcase artists from various eras and regions, helping students understand art as a powerful form of expression. They will also learn to make meaningful connections between the works of great artists, literature, and music throughout time, fostering a deeper understanding of how these creative disciplines have shaped and influenced each other.

Vocabulary Expansion

In our Culture Connoisseurs curriculum, we focus on vocabulary expansion to enhance students' language skills and communication abilities. Each week, students are introduced to new words, learning their meanings, usage, and context. This helps them express ideas more clearly and confidently in both speech and writing. By exploring synonyms, antonyms, and nuances, students build a richer vocabulary, improving their reading comprehension and writing fluency. Through consistently introducing new vocabulary, students sharpen their ability to articulate ideas effectively and broaden their language skills. This emphasis on word knowledge contributes to improving their reading comprehension and writing fluency, which are essential skills across all subjects.

Inspirational Figures

In our Culture Connoisseurs curriculum, students explore the lives of inspirational figures from a variety of fields, including science, art, activism, and exploration. Each week, they learn about individuals like Marie Curie or Malala Yousafzai, whose courage, innovation, and leadership have left a lasting impact. We carefully select diverse role models, ensuring that students see themselves represented in the figures they study, allowing them to identify with their stories and achievements. These lessons in resilience, empathy, and perseverance encourage students to apply these qualities to their own lives, showing them that, like these trailblazers, they, too, can inspire change and make a positive difference in the world.

Rhymes & Poetry

In our Culture Connoisseurs curriculum, the Poetry & Nursery Rhymes section introduces students to the joy and artistry of language through a mix of classic nursery rhymes and diverse poetry. Students explore playful nursery rhymes, which help develop phonetic skills and an early appreciation for rhythm. They also delve into various poetic forms and themes, from simple verses to more complex works by renowned poets. This exploration highlights how poetry uses rhythm, rhyme, and imagery to express ideas and emotions. By engaging with both classic and contemporary poetry, students learn to appreciate the craft of writing and gain confidence in their own creative expression. This section fosters a love for language and encourages students to use words to connect, inspire, and create.

By engaging with this curriculum, students not only gain knowledge but also build their cultural capital, empowering them to confidently navigate and contribute to the world. The Culture Connoisseurs program nurtures curiosity, creativity, and an informed appreciation for the diverse cultural heritage that enriches our global community.
