Welcome to Opera Class!

We are a vibrant and enthusiastic class, always ready to learn, explore and share our ideas. Every member of our class brings something special, and we are proud of the wide range of talents and interests we have, whether in sport, the arts or other areas of school life.

Our class teacher is Mr Cooper, with support from Mrs Benford and Mrs Lawrence. We are also lucky to work alongside several other adults who help us make progress with our learning and develop our confidence as readers.

Each morning begins with calming music and predictable routines to help us settle into the day. We then take part in our Culture Connoisseurs curriculum, where we learn about our cultural heritage through music appreciation, art, poetry and the study of inspirational people. This is followed by collective worship, which may take place in our classroom or together with the rest of the school in the hall. English is our first lesson of the day and is taught as a whole class by Mr Cooper. Throughout the year, we focus on developing strong reading and writing skills while also exploring a rich variety of poetry and performance opportunities.

After breaktime, we move into our maths groups. These groups may include children from our own year group or mixed Year 4 and 5 classes. We work hard to strengthen all areas of our mathematical understanding, while continuing to improve our fluency and recall of times tables facts.

The afternoons offer an exciting range of subjects. Specialist teachers lead learning in geography, history, French, art and DT, life skills and steel pans. Their knowledge and enthusiasm help make lessons engaging, inspiring us to discover new interests and deepen our understanding of the world around us.

Friday is always a highlight of the week. We take part in our Gifted, Talented and Enrichment groups, giving us the chance to nurture existing strengths and explore new passions. The week finishes with music, dance and drama, providing a fun and creative end to our learning together.
