4/5 DK

Welcome to our 4/5DK class page!

We are a mixed class of 30 Year 4 and Year 5 children. We are a lively bunch of enthusiastic and confident children, who love to engage in activities and express ourselves in different ways.

Miss Kirby is our teacher and Mrs Benford works with us in the mornings and hears us read in the afternoons.

We have a cultural focus each morning, which helps us to start the day in a calm way, and we try our best to improve our handwriting too.

After a morning assembly, we then make our way to our English groups for spelling and English lessons,

Miss Kirby, Miss Lane and Mrs Jones guide us as we read a range of texts and develop our grammar and writing skills.

It’s then time for a brain break and then our Maths lesson. We start off with working on our times tables and then enjoy challenging ourselves as we learn new things and become more secure in others.

On Monday afternoons, we explore our creative side with Mrs Lockhart in Art, or we can be found delving into the past in History. Tuesday afternoons are exciting – we are learning to play the steel pans with Mary, French with Madame Bastable and an informative Life Skills lesson with Miss Lane.On Wednesday afternoons in week one, we keep fit and healthy in our PE lessons and in week two, we can be found exploring different faiths, in Religious Education, with Miss Kirby. Every Thursday afternoon, in week 1, we test theories and experiment in Science and in week 2 we create code in Computing and explore the natural world in Geography. Friday mornings are exciting! We have choir rehearsals with Mrs Morley and Miss Rowden, outdoor education with Mrs Parsley and Miss Kirby, or P4C with Mrs Jones. After break, we join our Gifted, Talented and Enrichment groups to develop our skills in a range of disciplines.

And finally, on Friday afternoons, we have Performing Arts including Drama, Music and Dance with experts in their field: Carrie, Claire and Miss Rowden. These sessions are a fabulous way to express our creative flair and we can’t wait to show these off at our end of year production.

In addition to all the opportunities we have throughout the year, Year 4s get to go on a 2 night school residential to Ufton Court. The Year 5s remain at school and complete enjoyable activities.

We enjoy our varied and exciting range of subjects and it’s a joy to see our class flourish in so many different ways. We are looking forward to celebrating lots of successes this year and cannot wait to see the progress we’ve made at the end of the year.

“I like English because we learn about features that we can put in our sentences to make them even better.” – Abigail

“I really enjoy Maths because even when we find the work easy, we get more challenges to complete.” – Ronnie

“I love Science because we get to do Science experiments.” – Joe

“When the Year 4s were on their residential, we got to write Twisted Fairy tales and we could write our own version of The Three Little Pigs and mine was called The Three Little Fish. I really liked it because I wrote a lot and I worked independently.” - Winston
